(Nasa Hiring) NASA recruits new astronauts: NASA needs to reinforce its astronaut troops for future missions to the Moon or Mars and will, therefore, launch a new recruitment campaign from March 2 to 31, 2020.

In a press release, the American space agency announced, this Tuesday, February 11, 2020, that “with 48 astronauts in the body of active astronauts, it will take more to stay aboard spacecraft that will fly to multiple destinations and advance space exploration as part of Artemis missions.

Here are the main criteria that must be met to apply:
- Be an American citizen;
- have a master’s degree in science, engineering or mathematics, have carried out two years of work towards a doctorate in science, technology, engineering or mathematics, have a diploma of doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathic medicine or have completed training test pilot in a nationally recognized school;
- have at least two years of professional experience or, in the case of pilots, have flown 1,000 hours;
take a NASA fitness test. - And, for the first time, applicants will be invited to take a two-hour online test. For the last selection, 18,000 people had applied, a historic record, and in the end, only 11 astronauts had been selected. Once selected, the astronauts will have to embark on a two-year training program at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
- This training includes extra-vehicular outing courses at the NASA underwater laboratory, robotics, International Space Station (ISS) systems and piloting of the T-38 training jet, as well as language courses Russian and specific learning concerning the Artemis program for the return of humans to the Moon by 2024.
On the European side, the European Space Agency (ESA) will also launch its recruitment campaign this year “to continue European exploration in low Earth orbit and beyond”. Belgian astronaut Frank De Winne, head of the European Astronaut Center in Cologne, told Le Figaro in December 2019 that “we have not yet defined the size of this promotion, but it should be somewhere between two and six “.
