Iran earthquake – 300 Injured After 5.9 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes
Five die, 120 Hurt when the shallow quake struck near the Town of Hastrud, 500km north-west of Tehran before 2.30 am on Friday
The temblor struck Tark county at Iran’s Eastern Azerbaijan state at 2:17 a.m., Iran’s seismological center said. The region is some 250 miles north of Iran’s capital, Tehran.
Over 40 aftershocks rattled the rural area nestled in the Alborz Mountains, and residents rushed from their houses in fear. The quake injured at 312 individuals, state television reported, although just 13 had to be hospitalized. It explained the number of accidents happening when people lie in fear.
Rescuers are dispatched to the area, officials said. State TV reported that the earthquake destroyed 30 houses in its epicenter. Shallow earthquakes often cause greater harm.
