How to make friends in college, Don’t be afraid to communicate
Moving away from home and living in a dormitory or student lodge perceive many students as a loss of their territory, or a loss of comfort and safety. Finding new friends in a new place of residence does not have to be so scary.
It is important to realize that we are all on the same boat: moving to a new place, meeting new people, starting a new school. College is the best place to find friends for life. We will give you some tips on how to make friends quickly.
1. Try to be as social as possible
Even if you are not a social creature, do not close yourself and try to stay in common areas such as kitchen or living room in your sublease or school dining room and library in your new school. Once you come across a person who is also clearly looking for an opportunity to meet, don’t hesitate to contact.
2. Don’t be afraid to ask for anything that comes to your mind
Getting in touch may not be as difficult if you find a common topic with the person. Don’t know where the Study Department is, what is the library opening hours, how to order lunch in the dining room or how to choose optional items? Don’t be afraid to ask. First, just ask the advice of a more experienced classmate, and then you can talk about anything.
3. Do things together
Are you going to borrow compulsory literature in the library, sign up for a language course or buy a snack at the supermarket? Are you planning to go for an interesting lecture or just work out at the fitness center? Feel free to take your classmates or roommates with you. In the company of other people you will spend the day more pleasant and next time they will invite you somewhere.
4. Find new activity
Have you never been a member of a school board, have you participated in the preparation of a school ball, or have you played any sport in a school team? Try it. The more school activities you have and the more you show up in the company of other students, the more opportunities you will have to meet and make new friends.
No matter how you start looking for new friends, remember that the beginnings are hard for everyone. So try to be positive and as natural as possible, and it will all work alone.
